Norma McKay Testimony: Resident Perspective
Norma McKay, a member of the public, complains about the takeover of sidewalks by restaurants that ignore rules, and criticizes the lack of effective enforcement by the Department of Transportation.
So I will I was I will help them to correct it, okay?
So they can submit it.
It's okay.
It's okay to send the letters in Spanish to the council.
Sure, yes, yes, yes, yes, of course, that's fine.
Thank you so much.
Okay.
My name, my name is Norma Cauquet.
Excuse me.
I'm a member of the public.
I have patronized uh outdoor dining establishments, and I am affected by them predominantly negatively.
The um I've heard the representatives of the industry complain about clearances and about um clearances that reduce the size of their operations.
I think it's a good thing that we have regulations that limit the sizes of operations beyond what we've had so far.
We have in many places a takeover of the sidewalks by restaurants that largely ignore the rules anyway.
They don't abide by them.
They're egregious, notorious, repeat scoff laws when it comes to compliance with the rules, and we get if no effective enforcement by the Department of Transportation.
This problem has exacerbated the supersaturation of restaurants in some areas.
We desperately need enforcement of the reasonable regulations that are now in place that restrict the size and the operations of sidewalk cafes, and also we need DOT to take into account the track record of establishments that come up for renewal or for permanent licenses now.
Um, and and finally, we need some protection against the indiscriminate sighting of outdoor establishments that used to be protected by the zoning law limiting limiting it in residential spaces.
Now, with indiscriminate uh sighting, no area is safe.
Okay, thank you.
Hello, my name is Sharon Brown.
Before I begin, I just want to say release the hostages, let Yahweh's people go defend Israel.
