Chair Encarnación questions MOIA budget structure and 10 new positions
Encarnación asks about the 10 new open positions and which agencies house them. Officials confirm the positions include the 3 prelim vacancies and are spread across the mayor's office, DCAS, DSS, and SBS, with total PS budget of about $5.3M across agencies.
And I'm going to pause there and I have a couple questions, but let me move on to my co-chair, Chair Encarnación.
Hello again.
So I'm going to jump right in because we are pressed for time.
But I wanted to talk about the budget, MOIA's budget and your headcount.
You know, it's always challenging to try to conduct oversight because of the programs.
They're spread throughout multiple agencies.
That was already discussed.
I know that you highlighted some strengths and some challenges that we may have in calling for an independent agency.
I'm going to continue to call for that because I really feel that there are some major wins that we can get there.
But I appreciate the want and need for further communication around that.
In your testimony, you mentioned 10 new positions at MOIA that they are currently open.
Under which agencies are those 10 new positions housed?
And does that include the three vacant positions that we had spoke about during the prelim budget?
Or is it in addition to those three?
Yes, that does include those three vacancies that we spoke about in the prelim.
And these vacancies are spread through the mayor's office, DCAS, DSS, and SBS.
What was the first one before DCAS?
I'm sorry.
DSS.
Okay.
Mayor's office.
The mayor's office.
Okay.
Yes.
Got it.
And this is all still with the same baseline budget of $781.962.
Well, so our lines overall, they're spread throughout, you know, they're housed at different agencies over at the mayor's office.
We have five lines that are currently housed there and those in the three vacancies that we spoke about, that's where those are and that's the 700.
I'm sorry, the $780,000 budget is specifically for the mayor's office.
But we do have other lines that are housed under other agencies.
While that's the case, the employees do sit within our office, right, and do carry out Moya's work.
But they're essentially on payroll.
other agencies.
