Q&A

Councilmember Joseph questions Summer Rising applications and special needs accommodations

New York City Council · May 28, 2026 · starts 3:32:27 · 56 sec

Joseph asks about total Summer Rising applications and provisions for students with IEPs. Officials report 150,000 applications, with accommodation plans coordinated with NYC Public Schools' DIAL team, and confirm one-to-one paras will be provided per IEP requirements.

Speaker

How many students applied for summer rising today, and what provision are you putting in place for students with special needs, students with IEPs?

Speaker

I'm going to defer to the youth services team to respond to that.

Speaker

So this past year we received over 150,000 applications.

Speaker

So really excited about that.

Speaker

In regarding providing supports for youth and disabilities, we've been working with the DIAL team in New York City Public Schools to ensure that we have accommodation plans for every single

child that is required to receive those services and coordinating with school leadership and the CBOs as well to ensure that all those supports in place for all those services throughout the program period.

Speaker

And a student who needs a one-to-one para in summarizing, one will be provided and you will accommodate what's on the IEP.

Speaker

Correct.

Speaker

Correct?

Speaker

Yes.

Speaker

Thank you so much.
