Epstein on EV charging infrastructure in lower Manhattan

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 1:26:06 · 1 min 36 sec

Epstein requests at least one publicly available EV charging station in lower Manhattan after asking DOT for 10 years. Flynn commits to working with him on finding the best locations.

Harvey D. Epstein

I want to talk about charging infrastructure.

Harvey D. Epstein

We're talking about trying to be more environmentally sound, putting publicly available charging infrastructure in place.

Harvey D. Epstein

I've been asking DOT for the last 10 years to make one publicly available charging station in lower Manhattan someplace.

Harvey D. Epstein

Can you commit to making publicly available chargers available in lower Manhattan for people who want to convert to electric vehicles?

Mike Flynn

Well, you know, I'll start by just reinforcing, you know, absolutely we're working across with all the levers we have to try to expand EV charging.

Mike Flynn

Starting, you know, with the starting point being that we want to expand options for New Yorkers to walk, bike, and take transit, but we know some folks have to travel by car sometimes, and we certainly want them to be using electric vehicles in those instances.

Mike Flynn

So we're really taking in all of the above approach to EV charging, and that includes on and off street, level two, and fast charging.

Mike Flynn

One thing we're doing is trying to prioritize neighborhoods where we see a lot of higher vehicle drivers live, taxi drivers, things like that, and prioritize charging in those areas.

Mike Flynn

But we're definitely rolling it out across the city, and I can definitely commit to working with you to figure out the best places to put it.

Harvey D. Epstein

I'd love to see at least one in lower Manhattan, and I appreciate you working with me on that.

Harvey D. Epstein

I know I'm out of time, so I'll come back later, Chair.

Harvey D. Epstein

Thank you.

Mike Flynn

Thank you, Councilmember.
