Q&A

Lee on AI readiness and workforce development

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 5:43:33 · 1 min 38 sec

Lee asks for updated figures on NYC's AI readiness and what steps EDC has taken on priorities from the AI Advantage Report. Peck says she'll need to follow up with details.

Linda Lee

My last question is around AI and tech.

Linda Lee

In January 2025, there was the Artificial Intelligence Advantage Report that EDC recognized New York City as the applied AI capital of the world with 40,000 AI-ready workers,

Linda Lee

active investors, over 2,000 AI startups.

Linda Lee

Do you have an updated figure on how we're performing in terms of AI readiness?

Jeanne Peck

We will have to get back to you on that.

Jeanne Peck

I don't have that right now.

Linda Lee

Great.

Linda Lee

And as a follow-up, we'd love to hear what steps EDC took to accomplish some of the priorities that were outlined in that report

Linda Lee

around fostering new business creation and partnership to build this AI ecosystem, developing a diverse AI-ready workforce to power the future economy, and

Linda Lee

position New York as a global leader for applied AI.

Linda Lee

So we'd love to follow up with the key steps that EDC has taken to achieve the priorities outlined in your report,

Linda Lee

any programming to train workforces on the development of AI-ready skills, and any city funds being deployed to bolster the AI workforce or help develop AI-related businesses.

Jeanne Peck

So we'll get back to you on that.

Jeanne Peck

Thank you.

Linda Lee

Thank you.

Linda Lee

Back to the chair.

Linda Lee

Thank you.

Linda Lee

And a hearing would not be complete without Councilmember Ressler.

Linda Lee

So I'm going to toss it to him.

Linda Lee

And then I just have a couple last questions after.

Linda Lee

No, no, go, go, go.
