Lee relays CM Palladino questions on grocery store prices and brands

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 5:10:06 · 2 min 2 sec

Lee asks Palladino's questions about grocery prices, whether name brands will be carried, and product variety. Peck confirms it will operate like a regular grocery store with only the core basket discounted.

Linda Lee

Okay, I just had a really quick question on behalf of Councilmember Palladino, who was watching online.

Linda Lee

Just in terms of the grocery stores, can you just, I'll ask them all at once.

Linda Lee

And I think you actually answered some of these, but for the record, I just wanted to note her questions.

Linda Lee

She was asking about the prices and what they're going to be, which I know you said were certain percentages.

Linda Lee

And then are you going to be carrying name brands?

Linda Lee

If not, what can we expect to see on the shelves?

Linda Lee

Are people going to have the vast amount of options that we have in our grocery stores now?

Linda Lee

And I think you sort of answered that question, but if you could again, just for the record.

Jeanne Peck

Yeah, a lot of that's going to be worked out when we have the third-party grocery opportunity, but basically it is how we're envisioning that it's going to be like a regular grocery store with this core basket being discounted.

Linda Lee

And mostly focused on fresh foods, healthy items, those types of things.

Jeanne Peck

And everyday groceries.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

And not going to overlap.

Linda Lee

There's going to be items with bodegas at bodegas that are not going to be there and grocery store items that are not going to be in those, but they can still get elsewhere in the local supermarkets, right?

Jeanne Peck

Say that again.

Linda Lee

So in other words, there's going to be some overlap in items, but a lot of them are,

Linda Lee

because they're mostly focused on fresh items, healthy foods, a lot of it is, you know, in other words, the local stores and bodegas are still going to be carrying things at that supermarket.

Linda Lee

Will not.

Linda Lee

Yes.

Jeanne Peck

So, yes, there will be things that will not be offering in the NYC groceries that are big in brothels, like lottery tickets to pick up products, alcohols, things like that.

Jeanne Peck

But we will only be discounting a core basket.

Jeanne Peck

And sort of, as we understand, the sort of the highly profitable items for bodegas are not going to be discounted.

Linda Lee

Okay, perfect.

Gale A. Brewer

I just was, I used to buy live chickens at that location.

Gale A. Brewer

I don't want to tell you what happened to them after I purchased them, but at that location.

Gale A. Brewer

Thank you very much.
