Maloney presses on timeline for filling permanent EDC president

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 4:52:02 · 3 min 28 sec

Maloney asks about timeline, direction from Deputy Mayor Hsu, and impact on morale. Peck reports no timeline received, works closely with Deputy Mayor Hsu multiple times weekly, and staff remain focused and passionate.

Virginia Maloney

I appreciate hearing about everything you've been doing, and especially over the past couple of months as the interim president, but wanted to at least touch on the fact that we don't have a permanent president in EDC.

Virginia Maloney

In December last year, the former CEO and President Kimball announced he was going to be departing.

Virginia Maloney

We're now almost at June, six months, and I'm wondering, I know I have full confidence in

Virginia Maloney

the abilities of the acting leadership, but as we're talking about long-term economic growth, how are you to plan for those multi-year conversations without the formal authority of being deemed the president?

Jeanne Peck

Yeah, thank you.

Jeanne Peck

We appreciate that question.

Jeanne Peck

Yes, it's been a few months now, and it's really been a privilege of a lifetime.

Jeanne Peck

I did not expect to serve this role, and it's been a tremendous experience.

Jeanne Peck

I've had a real, it's been a real pleasure, and it's been a great experience for me to work with all the EDC teams.

Jeanne Peck

As you know, it's an incredibly talented group of individuals that have such enormous specialties in such a diverse number of areas.

Jeanne Peck

I've also really been able to work closely with Deputy Mayor Julie Hsu and her team as well as the mayor.

Jeanne Peck

And so we really have not stopped.

Jeanne Peck

We have completely moved forward, not only in the sort of our everyday work of managing 224 assets and 60 million square feet and all of the programs that we do have in terms of innovation industries and workforce development

Jeanne Peck

and our whole capital team, NYC Ferries.

Jeanne Peck

I mean, I could go on and on and on.

Jeanne Peck

The economic monthly snapshot.

Jeanne Peck

But we have also done a tremendous amount for the mayor's new initiatives, such as the modular bathrooms and NYC groceries, which is an incredible, incredible initiative that really has...

Jeanne Peck

Pulled together everything great about EDC, between real estate transactions to strategy to asset management.

Jeanne Peck

And yeah, so we haven't stopped.

Jeanne Peck

We continue to move forward and we continue to, and ultimately the president is the mayor's decision.

Jeanne Peck

And so we look forward to his decision.

Virginia Maloney

Have you received a timeline or an update on where we are with filling the vacant role?

Virginia Maloney

No.

Jeanne Peck

It's all business.

Jeanne Peck

We just do business.

Virginia Maloney

And how regularly are you receiving direction from Deputy Mayor Hsu or from the administration?

Jeanne Peck

Oh, we work very closely with Deputy Mayor Hsu.

Jeanne Peck

We're constantly working with her multiple times a week.

Jeanne Peck

We have meetings and ongoing conversations.

Jeanne Peck

And then the mayor has also been very involved in the NYC Grocery Source Initiative, so we work with him directly as well.

Virginia Maloney

Do you have any sense of the cause for delays?

Jeanne Peck

No.

Virginia Maloney

And is it impacting day-to-day morale at all in EDC's offices?

Jeanne Peck

No, I think, again, it's an incredibly special group of people that are really committed to the mission of what they're doing.

Jeanne Peck

And so everyone's staying focused and really trying to move.

Jeanne Peck

In fact, everyone's so passionate about what they're working on that they just continue moving forward at the speed that they have normally done.

Virginia Maloney

Well, we're all eager to see this position filled, but you also seem great.

Virginia Maloney

So I want to move on to.
