Q&A

Won on daylighting evaluation criteria

New York City Council · May 29, 2026 · starts 0:56:46 · 31 sec

Won asks how DOT evaluates appropriate daylighting locations. Forgione says they focus on where drivers can make legal turns and where daylighting can be most effective for pedestrian visibility.

Julie Won

Okay, so how do you evaluate what locations are appropriate for daylighting?

Margaret Forgione

We focus on where it can be most effective.

Margaret Forgione

So generally, that's where a driver would be able to make a legal turn.

Margaret Forgione

That's where the daylighting can be most helpful, right?

Margaret Forgione

We want pedestrians to be visible and to be seen.

Margaret Forgione

And so if you think about one-way streets, some corners are more helpful than others for daylighting, and that's what we would want to prioritize.

Justin Sanchez

Thank you.

Justin Sanchez

All right, we're going to transition now to a few other topic areas.
