Kristoff details Be Heard budget components

New York City Council · Jun 1, 2026 · starts 4:26:24 · 55 sec

Kristoff explains Be Heard budget numbers, noting the EMS mental health differential stayed in FDNY's budget during the transfer, and the current FY26 cost is about $4M for the FDNY piece, with social workers funded through H+H separately.

Lillian Bonsignore

So as far as the budget pertaining to Be Heard, I'm going to pass this over to Commissioner Kristof to talk about the numbers for you.

Linda Lee

Thank you.

Lizette Kristoff

Yeah, you had the numbers right in terms of what was added back into our budget.

Lizette Kristoff

I think earlier you referenced these larger numbers that had been in the budget before.

Lizette Kristoff

Part of that has to do with a differential that EMS members get for taking mental health training.

Lizette Kristoff

And so the numbers that you just stated in exec don't include that differential because that differential stayed in our budget even when that transfer had happened to H&H.

Lizette Kristoff

So currently all EMS members, once they've completed the training, are eligible for the differential.

Linda Lee

Okay, which I've actually attended the training before, and it's very, very comprehensive.

Linda Lee

And it's great to see how the social workers, EMS, H&H staff are all sort of working together on that.
