New York City Council · Jun 1, 2026 · starts 3:04:39 · 1 min 36 sec

Lee asks about the $6.5M drone mitigation grant and new authority to take down drones. Tisch reports the equipment has been purchased, counterterrorism personnel trained with the FBI, and NYPD will deploy drone mitigation for the first time at the World Cup.

Linda Lee

The executive plan included 6.5 million for drone-based grant.

Linda Lee

How do you plan on utilizing this funding and also can you talk to us about the new development?

Linda Lee

I know you've been working with the federal government to have more authority to be able to take down drone switches.

Jessica Tisch

Yes, we got $6.5 million from the federal government to use to buy drone mitigation equipment.

Jessica Tisch

We have spent that money and purchased the equipment.

Jessica Tisch

We also have members of our counterterrorism team trained on using that equipment and trained with the FBI specifically.

Jessica Tisch

On drone mitigation.

Jessica Tisch

So for the first time at the World Cup this year and events in New York City surrounding the World Cup, the

Jessica Tisch

NYPD will be working directly with our federal partners, with our own equipment and our own personnel on drone mitigation.

Jessica Tisch

And I will say,

Jessica Tisch

That is a very important first step.

Jessica Tisch

As for doing it beyond the World Cup, beyond that special event, it is still hazy and I am not at this time certain how it will work.

Jessica Tisch

We are looking forward.

Jessica Tisch

To the Department of Justice.

Jessica Tisch

putting out guidelines for state and local agencies about how they will be setting up our authority to mitigate drones generally.
