Tucker and Bonsignore detail fire prevention collaboration and Bronx fire data

So I'll just take a couple and then the chief could jump in here.

So one, the collaboration, right, between DOB, HPD, FDNY, we are collaborating and there is no strategy that we won't

you know, try to get this message out there.

We have done collaborative PSAs.

I've done PSAs with the Commissioner of Aging.

I've done PSAs with the DOB Commissioner.

The mayor himself put out PSAs for us.

We had him do a PSA because he has a large following.

So he's done a PSA for us.

We have life safety.

Pamphlets and different things out there, we're working together to try to solve a problem because we know that lives are attached to this, right?

We know that people are going to die if we don't get this message out, if they don't understand how to behave, if they actually get into a fire situation.

Now, we don't want them to get into a fire situation, which is why we talk about things like overloading outlets, overloading power strips.

We talk about not putting your space heater too close to things that are combustible.

And, you know, I can appreciate what you're saying as far as how do we...

We talk about this when we're in the press.

When we're in the press, there are a couple of things we have to hit, right?

We have to give them strategies, give the people strategies, so that they can share that information amongst themselves if they get into a place where they're in an emergent situation.

And it's not intended to put blame on anybody, but if...

If we have these situations where these violations exist, and our fire prevention folks go in there and they write those violations too, right?

But if those places exist and those violations exist already, telling the owners is not necessarily going to solve the problem in the press.

Telling the people what they should be getting, informing them of how your door should work, how your apartment, how you're supposed to have fire

smoke alarms, that is the stuff that gets them calling 311, gets them reporting the building, reporting their issues to the supers and the landlords.

We want them to be as educated as possible, and we will do anything we can to try to keep these folks safe.

We give smoke alarms.

We install smoke alarms.

We want people to know that, that if you need smoke alarms, we can do that for you.

You can call 311 and say, I need smoke alarms, and we can come and make that happen.

We want people to know that their doors are supposed to close behind them.

And a lot of people rig it so it doesn't, because they don't want to get...

locked out if they walk out into the hallway.

We want them to know these things because these are the things that keep them safe.

So we certainly don't want to put blame on the victim, but we want to educate the victim and give them as much information so that they can share it with their families and friends

and be safe if, God forbid, they end up in a position where they're trying to survive in a fire situation.

As far as the data, you can give the data.

So for multiple alarm fires in the Bronx, at this time, as of May 13th this year, we've had 27 multiple fires, multiple alarm fires.

On May 13th, 2025, we were at 16.

And May 13th, 2024, we were at 12.
