Wong asks about auxiliary police vest funding
Wong asks about auxiliary police officer bullet-resistant vest funding. Ryan reports the request was included in executive budget new needs but was not funded, and they will continue making the request.
Okay, Councilmember Wong, followed by Joseph.
Okay, thank you, Chairs.
Commissioner, auxiliary police officers were previously promised bullet-resistant vests after the 2007 murders of auxiliary officers Pacoero and
Marshallick, with the city committing $3.3 million for vest purchases and recurring support for new members.
My question is, is there a recurring baseline budget item in FY27 for auxiliary police equipment?
Because I looked and looked, I just don't see it.
So my question is, is there such an item that includes vests, radios, and other safety gear?
Deputy Commissioner Ryan will answer that question.
Thank you.
So we did include the request for the equipment for the auxiliary officers as part of our executive budget new needs.
It was not funded.
We will continue to make that request of the Office of Defense.
I see.
Thank you.
