Chair Schulman on Groceries to Go baselining and TNR services

New York City Council · Jun 5, 2026 · starts 1:53:39 · 2 min 1 sec

Schulman asks about baselining the $10M Groceries to Go program. Martin calls it a huge program serving 4,200 people in 2025, with ongoing OMB conversations. Schulman also asks about TNR and spay-neuter services, to which Martin responds as a proud cat dad.

Lynn C. Schulman

One is about groceries to go.

Lynn C. Schulman

So groceries to go every year, it's financed at $10 million, and I want to know if there's any move by you guys to push OMB to baseline it because...

Lynn C. Schulman

Every year it's $10 million, and then we have to keep pushing and pushing and pushing.

Lynn C. Schulman

And, you know, it should just be baselined at this point.

Dr. Alistair Martin

Yeah, huge fan of this program.

Dr. Alistair Martin

This is an incredibly important program for individuals throughout the city who need access to fresh fruit, produce, and...

Dr. Alistair Martin

Food that keeps them healthy.

Dr. Alistair Martin

We've been able to help about 4,200 people over the course of calendar year 2025.

Dr. Alistair Martin

And so we're constantly in communication with OMB to figure out how to meet the needs of our people that we serve and are looking to continue those as we build it out.

Lynn C. Schulman

Okay, we're going to, in the interest of time, I think we're going to send you a bunch of questions.

Lynn C. Schulman

So we're going to ask you to answer those.

Lynn C. Schulman

But one question I do want to ask, you know, that last year City Council provided $500,000.

Lynn C. Schulman

discretionary award to Flatbush Cats to support TNR services.

Lynn C. Schulman

So we wanted to see if the administration would consider baselining or expanding city support for TNR and low-cost spay-neuter services in future fiscal years.

Dr. Alistair Martin

As a proud cat dad.

Dr. Alistair Martin

That's good to know.

Dr. Alistair Martin

I'm just laughing because I have four cats now.

Dr. Alistair Martin

I have my two normal cats.

Lynn C. Schulman

That explains it now.

Dr. Alistair Martin

My fiance surprised me with two new foster kittens this weekend.

Dr. Alistair Martin

So we will...

Dr. Alistair Martin

We will circle back.

Lynn C. Schulman

Circle, yeah.
