Chair Joseph on ACE program funding and cost per student

New York City Council · Jun 8, 2026 · starts 0:48:38 · 2 min 18 sec

Joseph asks about ACE program funding, cost per student, and whether the $10.1 million supports all eligible students. Provost Alvero reports 5,603 students in AY24-25, and the Chancellor later provides the cost per student of $3,440 for both ASAP and ACE.

Rita C. Joseph

CUNY ACE provides bachelor degree seeking students with additional financial and academic support to ensure higher education is accessible.

Rita C. Joseph

In the fiscal 2026 funding level, 10.1 million able to support all eligible students, if not how much additional funding is needed and what's the average cost per student in the CUNY ACE program.

Félix Matos Rodríguez

I'm going to defer to Provost Alvaro, who's looking for that information.

Alicia M. Alvero

Cost per student is the thing that I am trying to get for you.

Alicia M. Alvero

Can't seem to find the cost per student for ACE.

Alicia M. Alvero

But I know I have it.

Alicia M. Alvero

I will tell you there are 5,603 students in academic year 24-25.

Alicia M. Alvero

And I can get you the cost per student that I know I will find at some point.

Rita C. Joseph

No worries.

Rita C. Joseph

Are there any supports not currently offered through CUNY ACE that students have requested other than changes to the program CUNY is considering?

Rita C. Joseph

Based on feedback from your student, are you considering any changes to the program?

Alicia M. Alvero

No.

Alicia M. Alvero

What we are changing, not necessarily feedback from students, is with the utilization and acceleration of technology and AI,

Alicia M. Alvero

embedding that into some of the tools and technologies for the career advisement piece.

Alicia M. Alvero

That's something that we're doing holistically, as well as into the identifying the right major and the match for the major and the more strategic

Alicia M. Alvero

advisement, the tools and technologies nowadays to alleviate some of the burden and the workload of the advisors and provide more personalized advisement.

Alicia M. Alvero

And so that's something that we're implementing, not necessarily based off of student feedback.

Alicia M. Alvero

They really appreciate having a dedicated advisor and a high touch, but that is a change that we are exploring.

Rita C. Joseph

Thank you.
