CM Krishnan questions OMB on Parks Department funding and PEP officers

New York City Council · Jun 9, 2026 · starts 1:36:34 · 1 min 9 sec

Krishnan asks about increasing parks funding toward a proportionate budget and supporting PEP officer lines expiring June 30th. Solomon highlights $15 million baselined for parks covering rangers, forestry, and maintenance workers, and looks forward to discussing PEP officers.

Shekar Krishnan

And switching gears for a minute, I know we share the same vision for increasing our Parks Department funding and how crucial that is too.

Shekar Krishnan

There are still PEP officers, for example, about a third, that don't have the funding in place yet once their funding expires on June 30th.

Shekar Krishnan

And there's a larger question of making sure our parks overall get more funding to ultimately get to a place where they have a proportionate city budget, proportionate to the overall city budget, and to other cities across America.

Shekar Krishnan

So how do you all see increasing the parks budget in this budget and specifically supporting worker lines that are expiring on June 30th?

Sharif Solomon

Sure.

Sharif Solomon

So we were proud to put forward $15 million and be able to baseline that for parks.

Sharif Solomon

And we identified some titles that it would cover.

Sharif Solomon

We know urban park rangers, forestry management, parks maintenance workers.

Sharif Solomon

We know that there's been highlight on...

Sharif Solomon

on PEP officers.

Sharif Solomon

We look forward to having that discussion with you and with the council in the next few weeks.

Shekar Krishnan

Great.

Shekar Krishnan
