CM Wong questions OMB on sidewalk shed reforms timeline
Wong asks about implementation timing for DOB sidewalk shed reforms and how many sheds will be removed. Solomon says DOB is in the rulemaking process and has sufficient resources to implement the reforms once rules are promulgated.
My second question also regarding DOB on sidewalk sheds.
Earlier this year, DOB announced sidewalk shed reforms to be implemented by this summer, this year.
Reforms would extend the timeline for...
inspections an extra year, create an abbreviated filing program for lower risk, well-maintained buildings to every 12 years instead of five,
and mandate sheds only extend to a maximum of 40 feet away from buildings.
My question is,
When would these new regulations be implemented?
And how many sidewalk sheds does the administration hope to remove this year and in the next four years?
Can you answer that, please?
Sure.
So the DOB is currently in the rulemaking process to be able to move forward on meaningful reforms on sidewalk sheds.
And we know that there is sufficient resources that the agency has to make sure that they implement the rules on sidewalk shed.
So we look forward to talking with you more once those rules have been promulgated.
Okay, thank you, Commissioner.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
I have one question for round two.
Okay, great.
We'll add you.
