Morano asks about federal and state policy changes affecting LGBTQ veterans
Morano asks about federal and state policy changes DVS is monitoring. Nicole identifies the trans ban with evolving discharge guidelines, the abortion ban in VA hospitals, and proposed cuts to sleep apnea and tinnitus benefits in the Take Care of America's Veterans Act.
Are there any federal or state policy changes that DVS is monitoring that could affect LGBTQ plus veterans, I guess, with the exception of the certificate of eligibility, which we've already covered?
Yeah, so the trans ban remains something that we're continuing to monitor as different guidelines coming out for different times of discharge and what qualifications may allow someone to stay in temporarily.
So that is something that we're actively monitoring.
We're also actively monitoring the abortion ban in VA hospitals.
So that's something else that we're tracking.
And then more in general, less specific on LGBTQ plus issues is in the Take Care of America's Veterans Act.
There's some proposed legislation that would cut sleep apnea and tinnitus benefits over a period of 10 years.
That is something that we are actively tracking as well, which there's many veterans in the community who would be affected by that.
