Chair Stevens introduces oversight topic and agenda resolutions
Council Member Althea Stevens introduces the hearing on DYCD's Beacon and Cornerstone programs and lists the resolutions being heard, including sports betting revenue for youth sports, the Center for Fatherhood Initiatives, baby bond pilot programs, food advertising regulation, and guaranteed income programs.
Good afternoon and welcome to today's hearing on children and youth on the Children and Youth Committee.
I'm Councilmember Althea Stevens, Chair of the Committee.
Thank you for joining us here today where this committee will be evaluating DYCD's Beacons and Cornerstones program.
In addition to the oversight topic, we'll be also hearing the following resolutions.
Reso 32, sponsored by Councilmember Banks, setting aside a portion of state revenue from state betting to support youth.
Sports programs upgrade community sports infrastructure and expand access to recreational activities for young people.
Reso 142, sponsored by Councilman Riley, calling for the establishment of the Center for Fatherhood Initiative under the Office of Children and Family Services.
Reso 161, Deputy Speaker Williams calling for the establishment of Baby Bond Pilot Program for foster youth.
Reso 217, sponsored by Councilmember Hudson, calling for the regulation of false or misleading advertising related to food products to protect children.
Reso 276, sponsored by Deputy William Speaker, which will create a targeted, meaningful test guarantee income program for low-income individuals, young adults, and foster youth.
