Avilés follows up on security protocol update timeline

New York City Council · Jun 24, 2026 · starts 1:22:39 · 1 min 36 sec

Avilés asks when updated security protocols will be released. Doyle says data privacy and security policy updates will come in coming months, and notes DOE updated Chancellor's Regulation A20 on student privacy for the first time since 2009, incorporating feedback from parents, advocates, and school leaders.

Alexa Avilés

So just to circle back, I mean, your updates on security protocols are going to be coming out in a few months.

Alexa Avilés

Is that what you're suggesting?

Dennis Doyle

On our data privacy and security policies, yes.

Dennis Doyle

That's one of the requirements under New York State Education Law 2D is that we have that posted on the DOE website.

Dennis Doyle

It is publicly posted there right now.

Dennis Doyle

We want to improve that.

Dennis Doyle

We want to improve it to make it clearer, more accessible, so everyone has a better understanding of what our data privacy and compliance policies are.

Dennis Doyle

And I also just want to add, too, along these same lines, we've also, in the last year or just over a year ago, updated our chancellor's regulation, which is Chancellor's Regulation A20 on student privacy.

Dennis Doyle

That regulation had not been updated since 2009.

Dennis Doyle

So we worked very hard on that to try and bring our own DOE regulation up.

Dennis Doyle

to speed with the current landscape of privacy law.

Dennis Doyle

We worked with a lot of parents, community leaders, advocates, school leaders, incorporated their feedback,

Dennis Doyle

and we feel came up with a regulation that actually strengthens our data privacy practices, but obviously this is a continuous process and we're going to be doing more.
