Farías questions DSS on addressing unique needs and advisory committee

New York City Council · Jun 24, 2026 · starts 1:19:37 · 1 min 7 sec

Farías asks how DSS addresses unique LGBTQ+ needs. Dalton highlights the DSS Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs as an independent community-facing resource and the forthcoming TGNC advisory committee launching in fall 2026.

Amanda C. Farías

How is DHS working to better address the unique needs of LGBTQIA plus individuals?

Amanda C. Farías

I guess you sort of.

Amanda C. Farías

Address that, but...

Erin Dalton

I'll just add two things.

Erin Dalton

It is...

Erin Dalton

a real asset to have the DSS office of LGBTQIA plus affairs to sit, of course, over both DHS and HRA and all of our programs and be another place where

Erin Dalton

we can be out in the community understanding the issues where that is separate from the shelter system and I hope is seen as independent from the rest of our services.

Erin Dalton

Understand those needs, again, be in community.

Erin Dalton

And also, again, just to mention, I mentioned this in my testimony, but we're really excited about the advisory committee that will be standing up later this fall for TGNC

Erin Dalton

identifying folks in particular to help inform us on how the system can

Erin Dalton

We can improve services across both DHS and HRA.

Erin Dalton

So I think in addition to what we've already raised, those two assets I think will be important.

Amanda C. Farías

Thank you.
