Maloney on federal funding stripped and job creation gap
Maloney notes Congress stripped federal funding the plan relied on, and that the Center for an Urban Future found only 2,000 green jobs added since 2023, meaning the 400,000 target would not be reached until well into the next century at that rate.
And additionally, Congress has stripped away much of the federal funding that the plan was built around.
So given the change in circumstances, the committees want to explore whether or not the Green Economy Action Plan remains viable and whether or not it had
has the resources necessary to implement.
Beginning with jobs, the city projected 400,000 green jobs by 2040, and that means we would have to create 267,000 green jobs over the next 14 years.
However, the Center for an Urban Future found that the city added
roughly 2,000 jobs since 2023.
At that rate, we would not hit the target until well into the next century.
So today we want to understand how the administration reconciles these numbers and whether or not the goal still remains and how it's publicly tracking against progress.
