Q&A

Thomas-Henry asks about green collar training facilities status in each borough

New York City Council · Jun 26, 2026 · starts 1:07:21 · 1 min 21 sec

Thomas-Henry asks how many of the five planned green collar training facilities (one per borough) are currently open. Jung provides status: Brooklyn Batworks (30,000 sq ft, late 2028), Bronx Fordham Green Job Center (12,000 sq ft, end of year), Manhattan Solar One (6,500 sq ft, already open), Queens Queensborough Community College (timeline TBD), Staten Island College of Staten Island (timeline TBD).

Shanel Thomas-Henry

Green collar workforce training facilities.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

The plan said that there will be five, one in each borough.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

How many of those are currently open?

Sam Jung

I'm happy to give an overview of those facilities, Councilmember.

Sam Jung

The first one is in Brooklyn.

Sam Jung

The largest workforce development training facility across the five boroughs will be at Batworks.

Sam Jung

That's going to be 30,000 square feet.

Sam Jung

We're going to be opening that in late 2028.

Sam Jung

In the Bronx, we're happy to invest $3 million into Fordham's Bronx Green Job Center.

Sam Jung

That's going to be 12,000 square feet and opened by the end of the year.

Sam Jung

In Manhattan, the Solon One Environmental Education Center in Midtown East, that's 6,500 square feet, that is already open.

Sam Jung

And then, like I mentioned before, we collectively have made a $10 million investment into various CUNY campuses for green workforce development facilities, which includes one in Queens at Queensborough Community College for an energy education center house,

Sam Jung

and one in Staten Island at the College of Staten Island for a sustainable business.

Sam Jung

Finance and Entrepreneurship Center.

Sam Jung

We're actively working with CUNY's capital team in particular to understand the

Sam Jung

timelines for when they will be open and happy to get you that information once it's clear.
