Epstein explains vote - Abdul Saleh street co-naming and gun violence
Council Member Epstein votes aye on all but takes a moment to honor Abdul Saleh, a bodega owner in his district shot and killed two months ago. He calls for continued work on gun violence solutions across the council.
Permission to explain my vote.
Permission granted.
I just want to just, I'm going to vote aye on all.
I just wanted to talk about one street co-naming.
Abdul Saleh was in my neighborhood and about two months ago was shot and killed in a gun violence.
Ran a store, a bodega in my district, and it was such a really heartbreaking incident.
And, you know, we've talked about gun violence a lot in this chamber and focusing on concerns around that, and we're doing a street co-naming in his behalf.
But it goes longer than that, and we have a huge problem in our city and in my district around gun violence.
And so hopefully with this street co-naming and the work that I know that we're doing across this council, we can get in front of all these issues.
And on behalf of Abdul Saleh and his family and all the other victims of gun violence, I encourage us to continue to work for longer-term solutions.
I vote aye.
Thank you.
