Ung explains vote - NYC Kids Rise, immigrant families, vendor enforcement
Council Member Ung discloses YMCA association. She praises the budget for parks, housing vouchers, vendor enforcement, and especially the $53 million NYC Kids Rise investment, which gives every child regardless of immigration status a fairer chance at college. Votes aye.
I'm disclosing on the record of the council proceedings that the YMCA is funded in the budget we are adopting and I'm associated with that entity.
Permission to explain my vote?
Permission granted.
Thank you.
The budget we are voting today makes real impactful investments in community across New York.
Under the leadership of Speaker Menon, we have negotiated a budget that funds our parks, expand access to housing vouchers to families in need, and an increase in resources for vendor enforcement.
I know I speak for parents in my district when I say that I'm particularly excited for the $53 million investment in New York City Rise secured in this budget.
In immigrant communities like the one that I represent, this program gives every child, regardless of their family's income or immigrant status, a fairer chance at college and vocational training.
There are many families who might not be familiar with accounts like 529s, but this shows them that they have available options to save for college.
I also want to thank Chair Lee, the Speaker's team, and the Finance team for all your hard work.
The dot, I vote aye.
