Brewer Outlines Commission Recommendations
Brewer details the 2026 Quadrennial Advisory Commission's report recommending an 18.2% salary increase, prospective application, 120-day commission timeframe, and automatic 2% annual increases if no commission is convened.

Much thanks to the Speaker, however, jointly announced the formation of the Quadrennial Advisory Commission to review compensation levels for elected officials.
The Commission released its findings in a report on June 23rd of this year.
It recommended increasing the salaries for the mayor, public advocate, controller, borough president, city council members, and DAs by 18.2%, although the DAs have a different system based on other judicials.
In addition to the pay increase, the Commission also made several other recommendations regarding elected official pay.
They recommended actually convening the Commission every four years and altering the timing of future commissions so that they will occur during the third year
of a four-year term of office rather than the first year, along with requiring that any compensation increases not take effect until the beginning of the next term.
The Commission also recommended giving future commissions 120 days instead of the current 75 days to complete their work.
Additionally, the Commission recommended that if salaries for the covered elected offices remain unchanged during a four-year term, they should automatically increase by 2% per year.
Or the actual inflation rate, whichever is lower.
This will ensure regular pay raises for elected officials.
