New York City Council · Jul 15, 2026 · starts 0:53:07 · 50 sec

Lee asks about delinquencies on shelter rent tax and water bills. A DOF representative reports approximately $47.5 million in arrears for property tax and charges. Lee asks about HPD engagement with DEP on water costs.

Linda Lee

And how many Mitchell Lama developments are delinquent by more than a quarter on their shelter rent tax, water bills?

Linda Lee

What's the total arrears?

UNKNOWN

I think we just checked this.

UNKNOWN

It's about $47.5 million in arrears for property tax and charges that DOF administers.

UNKNOWN

I don't have the number for water because we don't bill those.

Linda Lee

Okay.

Linda Lee

And has HPD engaged with DEP on solutions for resolving, because I know that those costs have also increased.

Linda Lee

So has there been any engagement in terms of how to bring relief for that as well?

Adam Phillips

We're looking at options internally to figure out a way to lower water costs for Mitchell-Lamas.

Linda Lee

Okay.
