Council Member Aldebol on SCRI outreach for senior-heavy Mitchell-Lama developments
Aldebol asks about HPD partnerships with Department for the Aging and senior organizations for SCRI outreach, given many Mitchell-Lamas are naturally occurring retirement communities. Alika describes 25 SCRI outreach workshops in the past year and willingness to partner with community organizations.
My other question is really about
Getting people who are eligible for SCRE, DRE, or any other benefits, have you worked with other agencies?
I know that in the Michilama developments in my district, they have become naturally occurring retirement communities.
We have a lot of seniors who live in Michilama.
And, you know, are you working with the Department for the Aging?
Are you working with other organizations that, you know, work with our seniors to make sure that they're getting all the financial assistance that they need to stay
in place?
So we are working with outside stakeholders, community-based organizations when we can.
And I said earlier, I'm so thankful to the council members who have reached out and worked with us to do workshops.
And some of them have done office hours.
And our teams have worked with the council members to actually go through applications with their constituents.
And I will also say that.
Over the past year, we have done 25 SCRI outreach workshops just over the past year.
And so we're always willing to partner with community-based organizations that make sense.
Do you have a sense of how many?
many people are maybe eligible for a scree or dree and have not applied.
And if the threshold, the income threshold is increased to 75,000, how many more could that represent?
I don't think we have that.
Projection available right now.
But when an increase is going to be scheduled, like my colleague Alika had mentioned, we will do everything we can to do outreach and to engage seniors to ensure that they understand the eligibility requirements.
Again, the pre-filled applications are very helpful and we'll work as best as we can to get households signed up.
