Speaker Menin asks HPD about tools to prevent Tracy Towers-style increases
Menin asks what additional resources HPD plans to deploy to prevent similar increases. Phillips discusses SCRI income cap expansion, advocating for additional Section 8, and federal resources.
What are the additional resources and strategies that HPD plans to deploy to prevent rent increases similar to those that are occurring at Tracy Towers?
So we have screen jury already at our disposal, and we would request collaboration with the city council to, on the local level, increase the income cap from $50,000 to $75,000.
So on the state level, that was legislated, but we still have to do something locally to ensure that the cap goes from $50,000 to $75,000.
We also would appreciate collaboration with the council to advocate for additional federal sources.
The biggest operating subsidy outside of screen jury that we could all advocate for is additional Section 8.
That is a federal source that has been neglected, to put lightly, for quite some time.
And we're working as best as we can to advocate for additional Section 8 resources to help mitigate any maintenance or...
rent increase.
