Lewis shares personal connection working for Fat Man Scoop at Hot 97

New York City Council · Jul 16, 2026 · starts 1:25:38 · 1 min 30 sec

Council Member Farah Louis shares that Fat Man Scoop was her boss at Hot 97, where she pulled his press clips and broke news stories. She describes how he encouraged her journalism ambitions, pushed her to keep fighting, and taught her to use equipment. She proudly votes in support of the resolution.

Farah N. Louis

Thank you, Mr.

Farah N. Louis

Majority Leader.

Farah N. Louis

I would like to thank Councilmember Salam for sponsoring Reso 371 and for giving us the opportunity to honor a man who meant so much to so many.

Farah N. Louis

For most people, Fat Man Scoop was the voice, the booming, raw, unmistakable energy that could fill any room, any club, any track he touched.

Farah N. Louis

He was the ultimate hip-hop hype man, and he did it with joy every single time.

Farah N. Louis

But for me, Fat Man Scoop was something more personal.

Farah N. Louis

He was my boss.

Farah N. Louis

I had the privilege of working for him at Hot 97, pulling his press clips every morning, breaking news stories, and making sure he had everything he needed to walk into that studio ready.

Farah N. Louis

And he was always ready.

Farah N. Louis

What I didn't expect was how much he would pour into me.

Farah N. Louis

He saw my ambition to be a journalist and to work in media.

Farah N. Louis

And he didn't just encourage me, he pushed me.

Farah N. Louis

He told me to keep fighting for where I needed to be.

Farah N. Louis

He showed me how to use the equipment.

Farah N. Louis

Wow, that was fast.

Farah N. Louis

With all that said, I'm proud to vote in support for this resolution designating August 6th as Fat Man Scoop Recognition Day in the city of New York.

Farah N. Louis

Thank you.

All right, seeing no one else signed up to speak on resolutions.
