Wong explains vote against 983A salary increase and 972 tax credit
Council Member Phil Wong, noting many constituents live paycheck to paycheck and that he advocated for budget savings, says he cannot consciously vote to increase his own salary. He votes no on Intro 983A and no on Intro 972, which would increase city taxes. He votes aye on all other items.
Wong.
Permission to explain my vote?
Permission granted.
Thank you, Chairman, Leader.
In my district, there are so, so many constituents that are living paycheck to paycheck and having problems making ends meet, and I just...
With that in mind, and also I spent many months advocating for savings into the city budget of identifying savings, so I cannot consciously vote on a bill to increase salaries for myself.
So I vote I and O except for Intro 983A, and I also vote no on 972 on the tax credit decrease, which would actually increase city taxes.
Thank you.
