Councilmember Gutierrez on 132 Melrose Street project

New York City Council · Aug 12, 2026 · starts 1:21:45 · 3 min 7 sec

Gutierrez notes meeting with applicants twice and CB4, describing it as a smaller proposal on a former manufacturing site in the Northwest Bushwick Rheingold area. She praises the property owners as good partners responding to community interest in maintaining manufacturing, and raises concerns about speculation and displacement of remaining residential buildings on the block.

My only comment will be to see if we could arrive at something that is mutually beneficial for the community on both sides, for housing and also the homeowners that have worked hard to maintain their property.

Member of the Public - Michelle Ferone

So I just ask the council to please consider that.

Member of the Public - Michelle Ferone

I think that if we can keep something more in the aesthetic of the neighborhood and not something that is completely out of character, I think it would be a welcomed opportunity for both sides.
