New York City Council · Aug 12, 2026 · starts 0:07:16 · 1 min 29 sec

Restler expresses gratitude to the development team, notes the existing Trader Joe's and commercial space will remain, and praises the project for adding housing above the supermarket. He highlights the developer's partnership with the North Side BID formation effort.

Justin E. Sanchez

Thank you so much, Chair.

Justin E. Sanchez

It's good to see you in the seat.

Lincoln Restler

I just wanted to express gratitude to the development team at 200 Kent.

Lincoln Restler

The developers and their representatives were really great partners through this process.

Lincoln Restler

This is an existing building.

Lincoln Restler

Many of you may know it.

Lincoln Restler

We have a Trader Joe's there on the basement level of a five-story building on Kent Avenue that was zoned just for commercial use.

Lincoln Restler

And this is really an area where we have lots of residential development, and allowing for residential development above the dynamic supermarket and existing commercial space is, I think, a very positive thing for our neighborhood.

Lincoln Restler

There will be...

Lincoln Restler

Still more commercial space, multiple stories of it.

Lincoln Restler

So hopefully we can maintain and sustain the office space that's there and then build a mixture of market rate and affordable housing above.

Lincoln Restler

I'm really pleased by this project.

Lincoln Restler

The development team is working closely with my office on the bid formation effort that we have on the north side to help improve street cleanliness and quality of life across our commercial corridors and our park spaces and our open streets.

Lincoln Restler

And I'm really grateful for their partnership in that endeavor.

Lincoln Restler

So this is, I think, a very sensible project, and I'm really pleased to support it and hope my colleagues will do the same.

Lincoln Restler

Thanks so much.

Shanel Thomas-Henry

Thank you, Councilmember.
