Council Member Brewer on property insurance for affordable housing resolution

Councilmember Brewer.

Just wanted to know James Baldwin's brother was a bartender at Mikel's on 97th and Columbus, and I saw him there many, many nights, just to give you a little history.

Resolution 387 urges the state to address the growing cost of property insurance, which is putting additional financial pressure on affordable housing providers across the state.

This resolution supports state legislation.

To improve transparency, study what's driving these increases, and establishes an insurance

relief fund, most importantly, to help preserve affordable housing.

These housing providers cannot continue absorbing steep insurance increases without consequences.

Stabilizing these costs is an important part of preserving affordable homes for New Yorkers.

I hope it passes in Albany and here in the City Council.
