Speaker Menin: Trump administration ends TPS for Haitian immigrants
Speaker Menin condemns the Trump administration's decision to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitian immigrants, stripping work permits and leaving them vulnerable to deportation. She names council members Narcisse, Joseph, Louis, and Ossé as mobilizing to assist Haitian New Yorkers.
Last week, the Trump administration announced that they would be ending temporary protected status for Haitian immigrants, stripping them of work permits and leaving them vulnerable to deportation.
This is a tremendous injustice, not only for those whose livelihoods are in limbo, for their family members and for our entire city who relies on their countless contributions.
I want to say that the council stands in solidarity with council members Mercedes Narcisse, Councilmember Rita Joseph, Councilmember Farrah Lewis, and Councilmember Chi-A.-Ossé,
who represent our Haitian New York community and who are mobilizing to assist our Haitian neighbors through legal access and Know Your Rights campaigns, as is the City Council.
