New York City Council · Aug 13, 2026 · starts 2:07:25 · 1 min 50 sec

Menin discusses her strong relationship with DCWP Commissioner Sam Levine, the Council's push for more agency funding, the Kalshi/Polymarket investigation timeline with 60 questions sent to four companies, and her sponsorship of the Deliverate Protection Act in the prior council.

Speaker

Hi.

Member of the Public

It seems like an area of shared priority between the city council and its administration is issues of consumer protection.

Speaker

Yes.

Member of the Public

Positive interest there in your past, too.

Member of the Public

I'm wondering if you can sort of share behind the scenes of what your relationship with the assembly media has been like, whether on the council investigation, have you talked about that?

Member of the Public

Yeah.

Member of the Public

You talked about the Office of Insurance Affordability.

Speaker

Yeah.

Member of the Public

And related in this zone, curious if you have any opinion or position directly on the Deliverate Protection Act.

Speaker

Oh, sure.

Speaker

Happy to talk about that.

Speaker

So first of all, I have a great relationship with Commissioner Sam Levine.

Speaker

That is my old agency.

Speaker

I love DCWP.

Speaker

We have so much to talk about in terms of consumer and worker protection.

Speaker

We fought really hard to get that agency more funding in the budget.

Speaker

I mean, that was one of our top budget priorities because, again, and I used to always say when I was commissioner, every New Yorker has a consumer protection issue, every single one, because you're dealing with products and consumer issues really all day long.

Speaker

So I've had many conversations with the commissioner about a number of different issues on consumer and worker protection.

Speaker

On the insurance issue, we had a hearing, and so we had a good dialogue on that.

Speaker

In terms of the Kaushi investigation and Polymarket, we will be reaching out to them.

Speaker

But right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

We have sent these letters to these four companies.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

We have 60 questions we've asked them.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

We are waiting to get those materials back.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

We will schedule a hearing.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

At the hearing, we will look at whether we need to do additional legislation to really crack down on what we believe are potentially deceptive advertising and marketing practices to minors.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

Right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.

Speaker

In terms of the Kaushi investigation and Polymarket, we will be reaching out to them.

Speaker

And so at that point, we would certainly engage with the commissioner and DCWP about that.

Speaker

But right now, what we're trying to do is we're in the data investigation phase.
