Commissioner Tagani on SPEED Task Force, ADU4U, and code reform
Tagani details DOB's Affordable Housing Hub program expansion, the ADU4U initiative launched in partnership with HPD, and the new Affordable and Efficient Code Reform Task Force bringing together government and industry experts to identify building code changes.
To that end, DOB continues to advance initiatives and facilitate development across New York City while maintaining the highest safety standards.
DOB was proud to partner with agencies across the city through the SPEED Task Force.
As part of this effort, the department is expanding its Affordable Housing Hub program, assigning the
DOB personnel to help HPD projects move more efficiently through the permitting process.
DOB is also working closely with HPD and the council on shared housing legislation that would increase the number of residential units available to New Yorkers and make better use of existing space.
Similarly, last March, DOB, in partnership with HPD and the mayor's office, introduced ADU4U, an initiative to make it easier for homeowners to add ancillary dwelling units to their properties.
DOB is working closely with partner agencies to move these initiatives forward.
In my time in city government, I have never seen this level of coordination, not only with partner agencies and our colleagues in elected office, but with our industry partners as well.
This coordinated approach includes the establishment of DOB's Affordable and Efficient Code Reform Task Force,
which will bring together experts from across government and the construction industry to identify changes to the building code and other relevant regulatory schemes.
The department is excited to collaborate with the agency and industry partners and look forward to working with the council and all responsible parties as we kick off the task force later this month.
