Chair Feliz recounts history of past 911 outages

New York City Council · Sep 9, 2026 · starts 0:09:58 · 58 sec

Feliz notes the 911 system has had multiple outages: September 2024 due to a reconfiguration error, and 2022 when someone mistakenly pressed the power off button. He calls for ensuring the 911 system is safe from disruption and thanks agency staff and his committee team.

Now, our 911 call system has had outages, not only last month, last month a seven-hour outage, but also in September 2024, an outage due to a reconfiguration error.

And in 2022, when someone mistakenly pressed the power off button.

Oswald J. Feliz

I look forward to discussing what steps we can take to ensure that our 911 system can always be a reliable system, one that is safe from disruption.

Oswald J. Feliz

I want to thank the members of the NYPD, members of the Office of Technology and Innovation, the Fire Department, and all stakeholders for testifying today.

I also want to thank the staff, including the committee staff, for their hard work.
