Public testimony: Rebecca opposes scale, distinguishes Prime building from street character
Rebecca, a homeowner at 2119 46th Avenue one house removed from the lot, opposes the building scale. She argues the Prime building's address is 46th Avenue but its main facade is on Jackson Avenue, and the small low-rise character of the street does not support an 11-story tower.
Next is Rebecca.
Rebecca?
Okay, this...
Hello?
Can everyone hear me?
We can hear you now.
Is this Rebecca?
Yes, it is.
You may now begin.
Perfect.
Thank you so much for having me today and listening.
I apologise that I couldn't be there in person, but I had some work commitments, but glad that I was able to dial in.
For context, I've lived in Long Island City since 2013.
I've been a homeowner since 2021.
I live in 21 1946 Avenue, so I live on the street that this proposed building is going to be built.
I am one house removed away from the actual lot itself and the house.
My neighbour's home is, again, contextually, we are a three-storey family dwelling.
I just want to echo the same sentiment from all of my neighbours.
This building, the actual size and the density of it is not going to work for a small block like ours.
We do have Moma PS1 that is adjacent to us, which brings a lot of foot traffic throughout events throughout the year.
Also, our car congestion is insane with people coming in and parking to use the other trailer jails.
It does irk me a little bit when I've been listening in and participating in these over the last couple of months is how we're referencing the Prime and Jackson.
And that just does not represent what this street is.
While the prime address is 46 Ave, the main part of the building resides on Jackson Ave.
So, you know, that fits in there.
We are all small, low-rise buildings.
I put all, from what Melissa says as well, we put our life statements in to purchase this lovely little bit of paradise that we have in an area that we have invested in over the past 13, 14 years of living here.
And if I wanted to live a real big high rises, I would not have researched and, you know.
Purchase somewhere here and a part of reviewing our purchase, we did look at TV lot knowing that that will be developed on and our.
Thank you so much, Rebecca, for your testimony.
We appreciate your time.
