Council Member Narcisse explains vote on Mangin appointment and 9/11 Memorial Way
Mercedes Narcisse explains her vote, noting reservations about John Mangin but feeling confident enough after his answers, and highlights the importance of the 9/11 Memorial Way co-naming for Marine Park, a first responder neighborhood in her district.
Narcisse.
Permission to express my vote?
Permission granted.
As I heard my colleagues spoke about John Mingren, I have a lot of issues, but the man was able to answer a lot of them.
And on that note, I feel not 100% confident, but somehow confident.
So I'm hoping that he can, whatever he said on the call, that he meant it, that we can actually work together to address the issue in New York City, like all homeowners are welcome, and it's not a privilege to have a home.
It's hardworking folks that have home, and he understood that.
And one of more things, I will vote yes on that.
But one of the things I want to highlight that the speaker spoke about a lot, about for our children, our youth to remember.
So one of the part of my district happened to be Marine Park.
And on what we're going to vote today for the Memorial Way, that's very important to me and to my district.
Marine Park is the first responder neighborhood.
It was then and it's still now.
Firefighters, police officers, EMTs, correction officers, families there sent someone downtown.
That morning, and many of them did not go back home, and we still have people suffering.
Thousands of people walk into that park every week.
Now there will be a walk.
They will pass the sign where they can ask their parents, and their parents can explain what took place that day that we'll never forget.
So on that note, I vote aye for everything.
Nurse.
I vote no on 804A and aye on all the rest.
