Council Member Wilson on co-naming Champions Plaza for Knicks championship
A council member discusses the co-naming of the intersection at West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue as Champions Plaza, celebrating the Knicks' unforgettable championship run and the New York spirit it embodied.
Thank you, Madam Speaker.
We will now move into discussion of general orders, beginning first with Deputy Speaker Williams, followed by Wilson.
I will proceed with Councilmember Wilson.
Councilmember Carr-Wilson.
Okay, sorry.
Today we are voting on the co-naming of the intersection at West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue.
The Knicks championship run this summer was unforgettable.
The whole city came together in rapt attention and ultimately joy as Jalen Brunson and his teammates exhibited the New York spirit at its best.
Collaborative, scrappy, and tenacious.
Now, the Spurs might not be able to hold on to a lead, but New Yorkers can and will hold on to our memories of the Knicks'victory.
We're immortalizing it by co-naming the intersection of West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue to Champions Plaza.
I wholeheartedly support that endeavor, and I'm honored that my district is where the Knicks call home.
Thank you, Councilmember.
