New York City Council · Sep 10, 2026 · starts 0:22:42 · 28 sec

Menin recalls the first Labor Day in NYC in 1882 and her pride in joining labor's march, honoring the contributions of the American worker.

Julie Menin

Last Monday on Labor Day, we celebrated the incredible contributions of our workers.

Julie Menin

The first Labor Day actually took place in this city in 1882 when union members marched to Union Square to demand better working conditions.

Julie Menin

I was proud to join our friends in labor the other day on their march.

Julie Menin

We all benefit from their activism and continue to honor the steadfast American worker.
