CM Carr opposes Chokshi for Board of Health, citing vaccine mandate record
Carr opposes Dr. Chokshi's appointment to the Board of Health, calling him a leading architect of the city employee vaccine mandate that caused workers to lose their livelihoods, and arguing his stance that the mandate saved lives sets a dangerous precedent for public health mandates on the Board.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the other two.
Dr.
Chokshi is one of the leading architects of the city employee mandate system.
That caused so many city workers to not only lose their livelihoods, but the careers to which they were passionately attached.
And based on his testimony at the hearing we held earlier this month, he remains steadfast in support of that decision, one that simply isn't supported by the science, despite the fact that
It's clear that the vaccine mandate did not do anything to stop the spread.
He still maintains that it was the right decision because of the lives that it saved.
This is a dangerous precedent for a person to serve on the Board of Health to have because essentially what he's saying is that any public health mandate that could be
life-saving or health-saving to the individual is justified.
Public health mandates are only justified when you seek to protect others from the health care decisions made by or not made by other individuals.
So I think this is not a position of someone who should be on the Board of Health.
