Councilmember Thomas-Henry questions DSNY on textile program business awareness
Thomas-Henry asks how businesses are made aware of the textile recycling program. Kate Kitchener explains the program is primarily residential but DSNY does outreach to certain business types like laundromats.
I will now pass the mic over to Councilmember Shanel Thomas-Henry.
Good morning.
So I have two questions, one on topic, one off.
For the textile program, how are businesses being made aware that the program exists?
Yeah, so I'll pass it over to Kate, who manages that program.
Yeah, so as we mentioned, the program is primarily for residential buildings, but we do allow commercial buildings to have a bin in their building.
And so we have staff that do outreach to certain business types that might be interested in having textiles, laundromats that might have a lost and found, things like that.
So that's how we get the word out around that.
So it's predominantly for homeowners, not necessarily textile manufacturers or the like.
Exactly.
Okay.
All right.
Thanks for the clarity.
