Sanchez questions Gajwani on Hunts Point processing capacity for organic waste
Sanchez asks whether the 250 ton/day capacity includes biosolids and how much remains for curbside organics. Gajwani says Hunts Point could potentially handle up to 400 tons/day of food waste but nitrogen management studies are ongoing, so the final number will be lower.
Does the 250 ton per day processing capacity for organic waste include biosolids recovered on site?
If so, approximately how many or how much capacity remains for organic waste from the curbside and smart bin streams?
At Hans Point specifically.
So we're still studying that.
We know that within the digester capacity itself, we could do potentially up to 400 tons a day of food waste processing, co-digestion.
However, we need to kind of, that's just kind of one piece of the puzzle.
We need to look at kind of, you know, I had mentioned earlier about we have to make sure that we're managing the nitrogen properly.
So we're doing an assessment of how much additional nitrogen we can handle within our system without impacting our waterways.
And so that's something, it's a study that's ongoing right now and that we're trying to get a final number on.
But it will be south of 400 tons a day, most likely.
Okay.
