Chair Stevens on interagency data sharing for youth tracking
Stevens emphasizes the need for interagency data sharing to track vulnerable youth across systems. Haskell says Deputy Mayor Arteaga is prioritizing interagency data sharing and has begun conversations leveraging the new CIDI executive director's expertise.
Yeah, I mean, I think also, too, when we're talking about interagency stuff, that's why it's going to be important to make sure that we are, and I know there's like two rules of thumb.
Some people are like, I don't know, we don't want to track kids or things like that.
But I do think it's important for us to be able to follow up, to be like, okay, they were in this RHY shelter, and now they're showing up here and having some continuation, especially for these young people who are so vulnerable and can
fall victim to so many different things and thinking about, okay, so now they showed up at HRA.
Okay, now we actually have a follow-up address that we could use because they're getting services from HRA or whatever.
But I do think that it's important for us to figure out an interagency system where we can, as providers and as the city, be able to really support them and find them, right?
Like, I think it's the other thing sometimes.
And I know I used to be a provider.
Like, I'm going out there and looking for my kids.
And I know there's so many other people who would to ensure their safety.
Can I just say one thing?
I know that Deputy Mayor Arteaga, this is a top priority for her, specifically.
have interagency data sharing.
And so she is in the process of leveraging the support and expertise of our new executive director of CIDI.
And so we have begun conversations about that.
Yeah, because I mean, even thinking about like, I know,
There was, like, mention of, like, oh, like, if there's an issue, and sometimes they'll, like, reach out to ACS.
Sometimes they're running from ACS because there's issues there.
And now we've just activated this conversation with an agency who are going to put them back in a foster care system that could be abusing them or have issues with.
And so it's like we need to, like, figure out a better strategy because it just doesn't work as easy as, like, when we're in hearings.
It makes it like, oh, we're streamlining this and they did this.
And so I think that, like, those things are important.
So it's like, okay, well, they were in ACS, right?
And I think sometimes the providers are like, wait, they were there.
Okay, they must be here for a reason.
And so it would further and have different type of conversations.
So, again, I do think that there definitely needs to be some interagency stuff.
