Chair Stevens on provider communication and housing alternatives for vouchers
Stevens presses on provider communication about the voucher transition and what housing alternatives must be exhausted before HPD vouchers. Thorne says DYCD will wait for the HPD meeting before communicating with providers, and currently accesses rapid rehousing and supportive housing as alternatives.
What guidance has DYCD provided to...
RHY providers about the transition of the city FEPS vouchers to HPD.
Have you guys started talking to providers about it?
Are you guys just waiting for your conversation with HPD first?
Yeah, we'll wait for the conversation.
Hopefully there's opportunity to discuss, to get input from the provider community as well.
It's really important for us to be able to hear from the providers, to hear from the housing navigators at the sites, to understand what the needs are.
Given HPD's vouchers are offered only in situations of last resort, what other forms of housing assistance are available for RHY that must be exhausted before you can apply for HPD voucher?
Are the alternatives listed or described anywhere that youth experiencing homelessness couldn't access?
Could you repeat your question?
The last part kind of threw me a little bit.
No, no, no.
I was just asking, given that HPD vouchers are offered only in last resort situations, what other forms of housing assistance are available to RHY that
they have to exhaust before they can get an HPD voucher?
And are there other alternatives that are going to be listed for them to be able to find housing for young people who experience homelessness?
We are accessing rapid rehousing as a resource now at the moment and supportive housing as a resource.
Once we know more about the HPD voucher, we'll be able to more fully
come up with a map of where, of all the housing options that are available.
