Chair Stevens on status of 100 new beds for homeless young adults 21-24
Stevens confirms the $6 million in baseline funding for 100 new beds serving homeless young adults 21-24, which she fought for over four years. Haskell says 20 of the remaining 30 beds should be online by November pending OCFS certification, with the last 10 still being sited on Staten Island.
Homeless young adults.
The fiscal year in 2020.
adopted a budget including $6 million in baseline funding for 100 additional beds serving homeless young adults 21 to 24.
I fought for four years for that.
So thank you.
Thank you guys for working with me.
You guys were on the fight.
Can we confirm that this is accurate?
And if so, do we have an estimate of when the remaining 30 beds will be available?
Yes.
By November, 20 of the 30 should be online.
They are in the process of OCFS certification, which usually takes three to four months.
OCFS is in receipt of all of the paperwork necessary, so we're just waiting for that process to take place.
The last 10 beds.
Are Staten Island identified beds and the provider is still looking for a viable site to place those beds in?
Yeah, when I met with the OCFS commissioner and we spoke about that and she's definitely had it on her radar and said she's trying to expedite it as much as possible.
Yes.
