Chair Stevens praises DYCD after-school expansion efforts
Chair Althea Stevens opens by praising DYCD for the massive after-school program expansion, acknowledging the difficulty of launching new programs at scale from her own 15 years of experience running after-school programs.
Good afternoon.
Really excited to be here.
And before I go into our topic today about homeless and runaway youth, I want to take a moment to give a big shout out to DYCD and all the work that they've been doing to get the after school up and going with this huge expansion.
We know that I've been yelling about getting RFP and we know when that happens, that's a lot of work.
And it has been hands on deck since you guys were tasked with that.
And now to have it in full vision and students are starting to start their after-school programs.
I just wanted to make sure that I put on the record that I'm very proud of what you guys have been able to accomplish and the work that you guys are continuing to do because we know it's not an easy task.
I ran after-school programs for over 15 years and starting a new program and at this magnitude.
It's not an easy lift.
And you guys are definitely not getting enough praise that I would like to see.
So I'll do it myself.
So congratulations for your hard work.
Congratulations for the work that you do.
Because in the same way I yell about you guys about stuff, I'm going to take the time to...
Uplift the good work that you guys are actually doing.
So thank you.
All right.
