DYCD on service plans, counseling, and program goals
Escamilla-Davies describes how counselors develop individualized service plans with short and long-term goals, connecting youth to health services, education, career development, substance use prevention, and family reunification, with the ultimate goal of leaving youth more connected than when they entered the system.
And RHY programs, I just got to say, I mean, the work that providers do is intense, intentional, and incredible.
In RHY programs, counselors work collaboratively with young people to develop individualized service plans that establish both short-term and long-term goals.
Through direct service and community partnerships, young people can access physical and mental health services, educational and career development opportunities, substance use prevention services, violence
interventions and prevention counseling, financial coaching and housing assistance.
When appropriate,
Providers also support family reunification to help young people transition to longer-term housing and supportive programs.
Ultimately, our goal is not simply to help a young person move through a moment of crisis.
As I said before, it is to help them ensure that they leave our system more connected than when they entered, connected to stable housing, to caring adults, to education and employment, to health and mental health support, and a community that continue to support them.
This is how we help young people move from stability towards opportunity and ultimately to...
Towards thriving.
Thank you again for the opportunity to discuss DYCD's Runaway Homeless Youth Programming.
We remain committed to working alongside the council, providers, advocates, and most importantly, young people with lived experiences, strengthening the system and to expand opportunity for young people we serve.
