One, examine the areas that have seen progress.
We also want to take a look at crime categories that require attention.
We've again made a lot of progress on issues related to shootings and murders.
But when we look at the crime statistics from 2019, the pre-pandemic years, it is clear there's still room for significant progress.
This is true for many crime categories, including and especially felonies.
Felony assaults are drastically up compared to the pre-pandemic years, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
If my math is correct, if my reading of the Comstat report is correct, we've had so far 21.5 thousand felony assaults this year, year to date, versus about 15,000.
21.5 versus 15,000 year to date in 2019.
The same is true for many other crime categories, including grand larceny involving a vehicle.
We want to better understand the challenges and discuss what more can be done to address these challenges effectively.
